Significant progress is being made on our district-wide construction projects at Union County Public Schools. Here is the latest update on each phase of the project including the new maintenance shop, the renovated vocational center, the Braves Activity Center, and new tennis courts.
Maintenance Building
The new maintenance facility, located near the bus garage and middle school, is essentially complete and undergoing final finishing touches. This 4,000-square-foot building will serve as an intake center for large deliveries and a central hub for the equipment and tools needed to keep our grounds in top condition. This upgrade will help ensure a safe and well-maintained learning environment for our staff, students, and community.

Vocational Center
Transformation is visible in the vocational center, where interior walls have been removed to make way for new classroom and lab layouts. Most under-slab utilities are now complete, with 90% of the concrete floors poured back and smoothed. Above, crews are installing wiring and sprinkler systems, while the main HVAC ducts have passed leak testing and are nearing final installation. Meanwhile, masonry work continues on both interior and exterior walls as the building's new layout takes shape.
The renovation will impact the entire existing structure, plus a 4,400-square-foot addition. When complete, the center will feature remodeled learning spaces for Agriculture, Engineering, and Health Science, as well as a brand-new Building & Maintenance program. This new program will offer hands-on courses in carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, and HVAC.

Multipurpose Building (Braves Activity Center)
The 29,000-square-foot Braves Activity Center (BAC), situated behind Union County High School, is quickly taking shape. The facility will feature a dedicated wrestling training area, a student weight room, and a high-bay fieldhouse for various student groups and activities.
Since completing the structural framing this winter, crews have focused on enclosing the building, installing the roofing system, and preparing utilities. Work is currently continuing on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins. Once these systems pass inspection, the team will reach the next milestone of ceiling installation. Interior framing is also underway; once finished, crews will begin drywall installation, block fill, and initial painting.

Tennis Courts
Two new tennis courts are under construction near the UCHS softball field and visitor football bleachers. The pads are complete and ready for paving. These courts will provide a major milestone for our athletics program, allowing the UCHS tennis team to practice and compete on campus for the first time.
Timeline & Impact
The overall project remains on schedule. The maintenance shop is now operational as the team transitions into the new space, the Braves Activity Center is set for completion by Christmas 2026, and the renovated vocational center is slated to open in Summer 2027. We are thrilled with this progress and look forward to the enhanced opportunities these facilities will provide for our students and the entire community for years to come.
