Bravettes Earn Right to Compete for Ky 2A State Championship

The Union County Bravettes softball team is excited to compete for a state title this weekend!  Last week, the Bravettes won the Kentucky 2A Sectional title to earn a spot in the Kentucky 2A Championships to be held in Owensboro this Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.

The Ky 2A Championships is comprised of over 50 schools from across the state with student populations larger than those belonging to the All “A” Classic but smaller than 1,000.  This is the fourth year of the Ky 2A Softball Championships and the first time Union County has qualified for the tournament.

Union County fought their way through the 2A Sectional Tourney with two hard-earned wins against local rivals Trigg County and Webster County.  The wins helped to avenge two heartbreaking losses earlier in the season in which both Trigg and Webster defeated the Bravettes with walk-off homers in their final at-bats.  Union County earned redemption in the rematches, making their own rallies to come from behind in both games, defeating Trigg County 8-7 and topping Webster County 10-4.

The Bravettes will now become one of eight teams to compete in the Ky 2A Softball State Championships.  Union County will take on Perry County Central in their first round game set for this Friday, April 19 at 3:45pm at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro.  You may purchase tickets here.

There will be a community send-off for the team this Friday morning, as the team bus will pass through Morganfield at approximately 10:35 with an escort from local first responders.  All community members are encouraged to show your support!

We wish the team the best on their quest for a Kentucky 2A State Championship! Go Bravettes!!
