Three Union County Schools Recognized as America’s Healthiest Schools

Three schools in Union County Public Schools are among the 781 schools nationwide to be named as America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2022-2023 school year. The recognition, awarded by Alliance for a Healthier Generation (Healthier Generation), a leading children’s health organization, honors schools’ dedication to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and families.

This year, Sturgis Elementary, Uniontown Elementary, and Union County High School were recognized for their commitment to several health priorities such as: Family and Community Engagement, Nutrition and Food Access, Local Wellness Policy, and Physical Education and Activity. The schools are being celebrated for continuing to sustain and promote good health policies and practices amid numerous challenges facing schools today.

“We’re honored for several of our schools to receive this national recognition for our dedication to supporting the well-being of students and staff,” noted Superintendent Patricia Sheffer.  “We remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering environments where all members of the school community can learn and thrive.”

America’s Healthiest Schools remains one of the country’s longest-running, nationwide recognition programs honoring schools for achievements in supporting whole child health equity for students, teachers, and staff.

Shane Bosaw, UCPS Director of Food Service and Wellness, highlighted the significance of the award.  "This recognition underscores our unwavering dedication to prioritizing the well-being of our students. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, we empower our students to excel academically and personally. Healthy schools make learning possible."
