UCMS Students Show Off Their Thinking Skills

Sixth grade students at UCMS are showing how to be creative, think critically, and have fun while developing their reading skills!

Students are studying the novel “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen, the story of a 13-year-old boy who finds himself stranded in the wilderness and must learn to survive on his own. As an intro to their novel study, students built and tested their own shelters. They simulated a tornado (hair dryer) and a rainstorm (squirt bottle) to see if their paper "person" would be protected from the elements. The project was facilitated by teachers April Dayberry, Amanda Richmond, and Amy Waggener. Great job, sixth graders!
